San Diego put California on the map for me. There’s something about that town that just speaks to me - might be that it’s 72 and sunny 365! Yes the weather is constantly amazing, but there’s more. Great restaurants, amazing beaches, the people are all so nice and REAL. Neighborhood pockets offer something a little different which I love. It’s pretty simple to get around town either by car or even with public transport. Just avoid driving during rush hour!
Last week. I left LA behind for a quiet week of work and wellness. I found myself in Crestline, CA, a little mountain town barely on the map. Crestline doesn’t boast much, but it does offer its 10 thousand residents the opportunity to practice yoga and maintain their pedicures — in essence, all I need.
If focus eludes you, try bunking down in a cabin in the woods. The crisp mountain air and cozy soliditude were just what I needed to get my online cooking courses to the next level (stay tuned! lots of goodness coming your way soon). While hanging in the trees, I created a few new recipes which you’ll get to experience very soon.
It’s no secret I love to travel. So, when I’m not in the studio I spend my time camping, ok.. ‘glamping’ and exploring the nearby mountains and desert.
This month I headed east to Scottsdale, AZ, for a mix of business and pleasure. The drive from LA to Az is a straight shot. Although it’s an easy drive, I’m all about exploring new routes, so I did the dead head on highway 10 there. But then I took a different route. When I drive I love to pretend I’m in my own video game with winding roads and varied terrains. I’ve always wanted to check out Sedona and Flagstaff. So, although a bit longer and out of the way, I thought it would be the better path for a fun adventure.
Spring has sprung and before you know it summer will be here! One of my favorite things about living in California is that there is always something in bloom. But I do have to say that spring time blooms are my favorite. Hyacinths have always been my number 1 fav, the scent I love. Spring is the best because its time to plant your seedlings for your soon to be vegetable garden. Tomatoes, peppers, eggplant and other goodies you can start sprouting for your summer garden. Yes, before you know it summer will be here – finally!! I grow my garden in pots and water from the roots – This ensures that I don’t need to water everyday especially when I’m a little forgetful. My herb garden is already off to a good start and its such a treat to have access to fresh herbs right outside your door…
Well, another month bites the dust! I can’t believe that even with an extra day February is gone. But I’m thankful that with all of February’s love pressure, it’s a short one and long gone. . . I was on such a role sending out a bump (think: hip or chest not baby) once per month but time flies when you’re having fun, I guess, and now we’re in the thick of March. . . oops, sorry I know you missed me terribly ; ). So, with everything going on March is going to act as a double hitter for both February and March. I’ve been slammed with work and family, splitting my time between LA, San Diego, and Palm Springs, and I just haven’t had a second…
Who doesn’t love a good Caesar salad? I do and I love shrimp too! So this recipe is a marriage or my favorites with a healthy twist – all my recipes are pretty much created this way or are inspired by travel, a restaurant experience or person. The red onion addition was inspired by a new’ish friend and recipe guinea pig, who I’ve observed is not shy about onions…

Being able to celebrate thanksgivings two months in a row, has been absolutely amazing. Thanksgiving should really be every month. For as long as I can remember I’ve had a 'tickle trunk' in my home. So you can imagine Halloween or anything dress up is my absolute favorite. Even my dog Kya has her own trunk. For those of you who didn't grow up with Mr. Dress Up or a dress-up trunk of your own, a 'tickle trunk' is a vessel that holds costumes for make-believe play or a super fun dinner party!
Here are two of my favorite shots from a recent cookbook shoot with Dana Hursey. It was so much fun shooting these classic Italian family recipes for the book. Love, love, love shooting with Dana!
